Editing the User Dictionary on the HTC Hero and Eris

The user dictionary is a great feature found on many smartphones, and proves to be very helpful when typing, but at times that dictionary can become pretty bad when you start adding some incorrect entries. Unfortunately for me, that seems to have become the case with a few words that I added accidentally.

Anyway, such is the case, but I recently saw this thread over on gdgt and was initially excited, but I have come to find that you cannot edit the dictionary on the HTC Hero or Eris — you can only delete and start from scratch. Not ideal, but better than having to worry about a few words in the long run. And at least this way I will be more careful moving forward.

So, in order to clear the user dictionary on the HTC Hero or Eris, you will need to navigate to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Then once there, you will need to scroll down and find “Touch Input”. Click on that, and then tap the “Clear Data” button.

Again, this may not be the most ideal way to remove a word or two, but in the meantime it seems to be the best option. But moving forward, lets hope that HTC will offer a nicer way to edit (or delete) on a word by word basis.
